CNN vs. Fox News
The world of Politics and News Media is filled with people loyal to their party and their side, even if that means presenting a biased view of reality that leads others astray. Recently, I finished reading James Comey's book A Higher Loyalty, in which he discussed this biased reporting and the impacts it has on justice and public opinion -- this is not a new or minor issue. The bias between reporting is noticeably seen in the recent Trump and Stormy Daniels situation. I recognize that the word I use to describe what is happening between and around Daniels and Trump also has a connotation, but I decided on situation because it is more ambiguous.
As I looked for two articles to compare, I looked for two articles on the same event under the umbrella of Trump and Daniels and found two from CNN and Fox on Trump's tweet. The CNN article headline read, “The remarkable irresponsibility of Donald Trump's Stormy Daniels tweet,” and the Fox headline read, “Trump mocks Stormy Daniels’ sketch of ‘nonexistent’ harasser: ‘Total con job.’” While both of these tweets seemingly have a negative connotation, there is a significant difference. CNN Attacks Trump, describing him and his actions as remarkably irresponsible. In contrast, Fox news just says that he mocks a nonexistent harasser, and simply states things, minimizing the issue. In the body of the articles, CNN faces the issue very bluntly, frustrated, and critical. “Go back and read that sentence again. Maybe read it twice more. It's yet another example of Trump's willingness to bust through not only what's considered normal and appropriate behaviour for a president but also what's considered normal and appropriate behaviour for anyone.” This direct quote from the article says it all. Fox did not make any comment on Trumps character and reported “facts,” while minimizing the impact of the words.
These two articles are examples of the discrepancies of reporting because of bias and the differences that words have in conveying meaning.
